EXP 300/500 Foundations for Adult and Experiential Learning is a one-credit course, delivered seminar style, and is designed for ASAP students to complete within their first semester at Keuka College. EXP 300/500 Foundations for Adult and Experiential Learning will assist adult students transition to the demands of college coursework, while providing foundational learning theory and an appreciation for the liberal arts. This course has been created to introduce ASAP students to adult learning theory and experiential learning, a cornerstone of the Keuka College education. Providing adult students returning to college with a foundational course such as EXP 300/500 is a best practice model for many institutions who recognize the differing needs of this unique student population.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Qualified instructors should have a sound understanding of the Keuka College Center for Professional Studies programs and delivery model, Adult Learning Theory and practice, as well as an appreciation for the challenges adult students face when returning to College.
  • Foundations for Adult and Experiential Learning will introduce students to the scholarly demands of Keuka College and provide an understanding of the liberal arts for adult students in higher education. Students will critically evaluate their educational journey and professional goals through the exploration of adult learning theory, philosophies of education, and learning styles. This course will utilize critical reading, active discussion, and reflective writing to help adult students become a contributing member of an academic community of learners. Graduate students enrolled in EXP 500 will be required to complete an additional capstone assignment.
  • Responsible for ensuring that assigned tasks are completed in compliance with various institutional and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain a professional and courteous attitude at all times towards co-workers, internal and external customers, representing Keuka College, its programs, policies and procedures in a positive and professional manner. Maintain effective working relationships to ensure institution-wide teamwork.
  • Attend provided/necessary trainings and other meetings to support effectiveness within the position as required.
  • Consistently demonstrate high standards of integrity by supporting the Keuka College mission, vision and values and adhering to institutional policies.
  • Maintain high regard for student privacy in accordance with the FERPA privacy policies and procedures.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is expected and required.
  • Perform other functions as assigned by management.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Masters degree required.
  2. Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  3. Understand and behave with a high level of integrity and complete confidentiality at all times.
  4. Ability to be sensitive to and respond to needs/concerns of students, faculty, college staff and the public.
  5. Ability to work under pressure with a high tolerance for interruptions, and the ability to work with diverse groups of people.

Physical Requirements

  • Occasional lifting of boxes, supplies, etc., generally less than 30lbs.
  • Some evening and weekend hours required
